Low Tides during Winter - Exploring the Exposed Reefs around Rarotonga
At times we have very low tides around Rarotonga and the Cook Islands. Exploring the exposed reefs is fascinating and a unique experience. Here are some tips and safety reminders;
- Make sure that the tide is still going out and is not coming in
- Use Windy (Blue) App for correct tides in Rarotonga
- Walk in an area where the waves breaking on the exposed reef are small
- Wear protective reef shoes
- Don't walk on the live coral heads as they break and damage easily
- Wear sunglasses - polarised are the best
- If in doubt, get a guided tour with us or with Ariimoana Walkabouts
